Novara and Surroundings

Let yourself be inspired by the beauty of the territory: Galliate is a small artistic treasure in the Novara area, with its Renaissance castle, churches rich in works of art and the evocative “Sacred Mount of the plains” that offers a unique spiritual and artistic experience.

A little further away, Novara represents an artistic and cultural center to be discovered, a true Piedmontese pearl.

Galliate

Visconteo Sforzesco Castle

Visconteo Sforzesco Castle

Right in the center of Galliate, in the middle of a vast square, stands an imposing building, surrounded by a wide moat. It is the Visconti-Sforza castle of Galliate, which the Duke of Milan Galeazzo Sforza had built in 1476 on the previous Visconti military fortress.

Parish Church of Saints Pietro and Paolo

Located on the same area once covered by the ancient sixteenth-century parish church, it features a three-nave structure and houses the painting by Cuzzio depicting San Pietro and San Paolo and a San Antonio of Padua by Bartolomeo Vandoni.

Varallino Sanctuary

The country church of San Pietro in Vulpiate, better known as the Varallino sanctuary, recalls on a reduced scale the Sacred Mount of Varallo Sesia, hence the title of “Sacred Mount of the Plains”. The current building stands where there was a small chapel with the image of the Virgin Mary in the act of offering a pear to the Child, considered miraculous: the fresco, from the 15th century, is now visible in the church choir.

Villa Fortuna

The ancient complex of probable sixteenth-century origins stands on the first ledge of the Ticino and overlooks the valley below and the Naviglio Langosco. A historic residence that testifies to the noble elegance of the Renaissance era.
